In recent years, UNESCO’s General Conference has made decisions to recognize and honor important people and historical events that have had a lasting impact on the world. (I) At the UNESCO General Conference in 1987, President Ho Chi Minh (1890-1969) was praised as “an outstanding symbol of national pride, who dedicated his whole life to the freedom of the Vietnamese people and contributed to the shared struggle of all peoples for peace, independence, democracy, and social progress.”

For the Vietnamese people, President Ho Chi Minh is remembered as a brilliant leader and a hero of the nation’s fight for independence.
